    ARE YOU PROTECTED?
  • Every year thousands of people are injured by Fire and Smoke. Although there is no foolproof method to prevent this from happening, Capstan can help make your property a safer place. We install and maintain fire extinguishers as recommended by the Fire Protection Association.

New EEC Regulations
FIRE PRECAUTIONS (Workplace) Regulation 1997
This regulation has put the onus on employers to assess their own risks and to maintain general fire safety measures to fight, detect and give warning of fire, to plan exit routes and to keep those routes clear, to ensure the safe evacuation of persons via emergency routes and exits in the work place which do not have a fire certificate.

FIRE CERTIFICATE
If more than 20 people are at work at anyone time, or more than 10 people are working on a floor other than the ground floor, commercial premises require a Fire Certificate under the Fire Precautions Act, 1971.

PORTABLE EQUIPMENT
Portable fire-fighting equipment, conforming to British Standard EN3:1996, must be readily accessible, simple to operate and clearly labelled, with designated persons nominated to implement these measures.

Annual Inspection Service and Maintenance by a Competent Person
In order to conform to British Standard 5306: Part 3, you should ensure that all fire extinguishers are inspected, serviced and properly maintained at least once a year.

These procedures must be carried out by a competent Capstan engineer trained according to EEC and British Standards, who will make sure that appliances are: sited correctly, fully operational and not damaged in any way.

A maintenance record card attached to each extinguisher will be completed and signed at the time of the visit.

FIRE ALARMS

Fire safety in the home and workplace is increasingly becoming a matter of great concern to many local authorities and home owners.

FIRE BELL We, at Capstan, can supply and fit a wide range of stand-alone fire alarm systems to comply with British Standard 5839-1:2002 and European Standard EN54.

Typical requirements include:- Protection of high risk areas only (P2). All areas of premises to be protected (P1). Protection of escape routes and all rooms adjacent (L3). Escape routes and all other normally occupied rooms (L2). Protection of all areas whether occupied or not (L1).

These requirements are suitable for all private homes as well as offices, hotels, schools, sport centres and other large commercial and industrial premises. Your fire officer and/or insurance company will advise accordingly. FIRE SENSORWe will also work to specifications provided by the Fire Prevention Officer.

Control panel types range from conventional alarms (wired systems that report which area the fire has occured in), an addressable system (wired to indicate what detector is active and where postioned) and fully wireless fire systems that need no form of cables.

All the above systems can be linked to our 24-hour alarm receiving centre to provide you and your property with a high degree of response from your local fire brigade in the event of a fire.
